Immersive Health Studio

To play is a biological right. To play is a biological necessity. To play is to be human.

Play is one of the brain’s core emotional systems, shared across mammals (Panksepp, 1998). We take that seriously.

The heart

The studio is where spaces made for humans come to life.

The studio is where we test, in real rooms with real people, what it feels like when a space is designed for the body first. It answers two things modern life has quietly taken away.

What we’ve lost

Places to just be.

Public squares, village greens and front stoops: places where people could linger, with no agenda, and bump into strangers. Sociologists call these “third places” (Oldenburg, 1989), and they have been thinning out. More of our time together now happens on screens, or somewhere we’re expected to pass through quickly and move on.

In the studio: rooms built to linger in, not rush through, with a mix of free, low-cost and ticketed experiences so there’s a way in for everyone.

What we’ve lost

Making things together.

For most of human history we worked side by side with our hands: harvesting, building, weaving, cooking for many. Research suggests that moving in sync, as in dance and music-making, helps people feel closer to each other (Tarr, Launay and Dunbar, 2014). Today most work happens alone at a keyboard, so we can feel lonely even when we’re “together” on a call.

In the studio: hands-on, shared builds where strangers make something real together.

What we learn here flows back into everything else we do: the research, the sensory snapshots and the spaces people live, work and gather in.

Five rooms, each tuned to a sense.

Scroll slowly. Each room is washed in its own light, the way our physical rooms will be. The field behind you answers as you move.

The rooms are original renders of the atmospheres we design toward, not photographs.

Room 01 · Listening

What does this room sound like when nobody is talking?

Notice the nearest sound, then the farthest. A ripple leaves the center every few seconds, the pace of an unhurried breath.

Two soft notes that swell once every ten seconds. Only plays when you press it.

Room 02 · Light

Where does the light meet the dark?

An edge of light is drifting across the room. Your eyes follow it before you decide to. Then find one in your own room.

Room 03 · Touch

Press and hold.

Anywhere. The ground rises to meet you and settles when you let go. Notice where your body meets a surface right now.

Room 04 · Space

How far away is everything?

The landscape is pulling back. Notice the nearest object, then the farthest thing you can see.

Room 05 · Gathering

Who would you bring here?

Scent and taste are the social senses: a shared fire, a meal passed around. Tap anywhere and watch your ripple meet the others.
